'19TH CENTURY BOYS' by Paris-based photographer Alexandre Morvan looks at forgotten gay meeting spaces in Paris from the 1840s to the early 20th century.

His project Ghost Space (Espaces Fantômes) is like a “fantasized archaeology” of gay social spaces across Western Europe. Combining photography, historical research, and even AI, Morvan reconstructs bars, facades, and hidden places in parks that once served as safe spaces for men—but which were often erased from history.

The resulting images, sometimes glitchy and imperfect, reflect both the fragility of memory and the difficulty of representation. This work acts as a layered archive—personal, historical, and imagined—reclaiming a queer past that official history has largely ignored.
