A member of the 1967 expansion class, the North Stars were a solid team throughout their existence but were never able to break through and win a championship. In 1978, the Cleveland Barons merged with the North Stars in an unprecedented move to save both clubs from dissolving completely. The team improved in the 1980's and made a finals appearance in 1991. Despite their success on the ice, the team was renamed and moved to Dallas following the 1992 season.
